A 1912 Masonic memorial says James B. Buffington was born in Hall County, Georgia, in 1832 and moved with his father to Murray County at about age ten. It describes his railroad career beginning as a track hand and advancing to locomotive engineer.
The memorial also describes two marriages, longtime Methodist faith, family devotion, and Masonic service in Oostanaula Lodge No. 113.
Evidence status: Partially corroborated. The clipping is incomplete and commemorative. Its details and the generational link to Carrie require independent records.
